Working in Digital Media _ Robbie Ward

Influencing purchases with digital media

Robbie Ward works for BPM media. Their clients consist of bars, nightclubs and department stores. Their main goal is to try get people to part with cash wit the use of the media. The main media they use is audio, visuals and interaction.

These videos are placed in venues such as Copper Face Jacks, Fitzsimons and club m. They also create the text that flows across the screen that can contain messages for people by texting a particular number. Also included in these videos  adverts for restaurants advertising their food or specials of the day.  They have in-house music channels that play all the latest chart music that appeals to a main audience  for these venues that help encourage people to re-visit the business. For example in a restaurant, French music was played on a certain day and the sale of wines from France increased.

He discusses about how “Understanding your audience” is very vital.

Bpm merge with audio media company to help their systems set up. And sales come through sale agents. It usually takes 2 to 3 weeks for a bpm system to be set up within a venue.

This was an interesting speaker. I hadn’t  thought of a job in the media sector to be like this. The job kind of comes across sneaky, as the goal of the company is to try manipulate a customer into “shedding he/she cash” without the customer realizing. haha maybe i am thinking too much into it. It wouldn’t be a job i would be interested in. I dont think i could be that sneaky……Good talk though :)
